Managing kids' screen-time

Hi everyone!

I know how hard it can be to manage screen time. With so many devices and apps available, it is hard to know how much is too much. That's why I wanted to share some thoughts on screen time and how we can manage it as parents.

Too much screen time can have negative effects on children's physical and mental health. Studies have shown that excessive screen time can lead to poor sleep habits and also attention and behaviour problems.

It's best if we can balance screen time with other activities such as physical exercise, social interaction, and creative play. This balance can help to mitigate the negative effects of screen time and promote overall well-being.

Additionally, it's important to be mindful of the content that children are consuming. It's important to monitor the apps, games, and videos that children are using, and to make sure that they are age-appropriate and that they promote positive values.

So what we do is to set boundaries and guidelines for screen time. This includes setting limits on the amount of time they are allowed to spend on screens, as well as setting specific times of day when screens are not allowed such as during meal times.

We also try to lead by example. Children often model their behaviour after what they see from the adults in their lives. By setting our own boundaries and guidelines for screen time, we would like to teach them the importance of balance and self-regulation.

All in all, understanding the effects of screen time, setting clear boundaries and guidelines, leading by example, monitoring content, and being open to trying new approaches can help our children and ourselves also to find balance and let us enjoy the benefits of technology in a healthy way.

Best,

Nese xx
