Fun and Creative Games Using Trinkets from Your Kits!
One of my favourite things about our play dough kits is that they come with little trinkets—tiny treasures that spark creativity in the most delightful ways. Whether it’s a miniature key, a sparkly gem, or a tiny wooden star, kids naturally find ways to use them in play. And if you’re looking for some fresh ideas to make the most of these trinkets, I’ve got you covered! Here are some simple, fun, and open-ended games that will get little imaginations whirring.
1. Trinket Treasure Hunt
This one’s a classic! Hide trinkets around the room (or outside if the weather’s nice!) and let the kids go on a treasure hunt. You can make it even more exciting by giving them clues: “The fairy left behind her magic key… where could it be?” or “X marks the spot!”
2. Storytelling Jar
Pop all the trinkets into a jar, and take turns pulling one out and adding to a group story based on the trinket. “Once upon a time, a tiny golden key was found in the forest…” Who knows where the story will go? A talking owl? A secret castle? The possibilities are endless!
3. Sorting & Categorising Challenge
Little ones love sorting things, so why not turn it into a game? Lay out the trinkets and challenge kids to sort them by colour, shape, or even by made-up categories like ‘magical’ vs. ‘ordinary’! Add a timer for extra excitement—who can sort the fastest?
4. Mystery Bag Guessing Game
Put a few trinkets in a small bag, and let the kids feel inside without looking. Can they guess what they’re holding just by touch? “Hmm… it’s round and bumpy… is it the tiny turtle?” It’s a great sensory game that adds a little mystery to playtime!
5. Trinket Shop Role-Play
Set up a mini “shop” using the trinkets as the items for sale. Kids can take turns being the shopkeeper and customer, using pretend coins to “buy” items. This game always leads to the funniest negotiations—“One shiny gem for three pinecones? Deal!”
6. Potion Mixing Game
Perfect for little potion masters! Each trinket gets a magical property—perhaps the tiny star is “wish dust” or the blue gem is “mermaid tears.” Kids can mix them up in a potion jar and name their concoctions. “This one makes you invisible… but only on Tuesdays!”
7. What's Missing
Place a selection of trinkets on a tray and let the kids study them for a moment. Then, cover or remove one item, and challenge the players to remember which object is missing. It’s a simple, fun game that helps improve focus and quick thinking!
8. Trinket Toss
Draw circles on a big piece of paper or use small bowls as targets. Let kids toss trinkets in and earn points based on where they land. It’s a fun mix of coordination and excitement—especially when someone lands a tricky shot!
These little games add an extra layer of fun to our play dough kits, encouraging kids to explore, create, and play in different ways. And the best part? No instructions needed—just a few simple prompts and kids will take it from there! Have fun trying these out, and if your little one comes up with their own trinket game, I’d love to hear about it!
